World of Betami

Betami is an exploration of jewelry as a personal language. We create as a way to give physical form to what lives inside. All of the people, loves, memories, hopes, dreams we carry with us. Our work is rooted in the belief that jewelry has always been how we mark what matters and build a record of our becoming.

We design through a refined and sculptural lens that highlights the rare and one of a kind gemstones used in our creations. Working with solid gold and platinum, we meticulously craft each piece by hand in our Virginia studio.

A Note from Selma

“At the heart of my work is a reverence for the materials themselves. A lifelong 'magpie,’ I have been collecting crystals, fossils, and peculiar stones since childhood, but now with the discernment for rare and very fine one-of-a-kind gemstones. I hand-select each stone I work with for color, cut, clarity, inner fire, and for the ineffable characteristics that make up its soul.

I’m also endlessly fascinated by the geological forces that have created these stones over thousands and even billions of years. It’s very easy for me to fall in love with their story and their permanence against time. They’ve witnessed a history far older than ours, and now, working with these tiny miracles and transforming them into armor and wearable pieces of art; creating talismans of love and protection feels really special to me.

But my fascination extends beyond my materials. I believe in the power of craftsmanship, in creating substantial, tactile gold settings that elevate timeless designs. Crafted with attention to the finest detail, each piece of jewelry is an individual creation that feels as special to wear as it looks.

After working closely with some of the mining co-ops in Ethiopia, I have witnessed how the gemstone industry has the power to shape lives and uplift communities. And I am proud to use only ethically sourced gemstones and conflict-free diamonds to ensure that each piece is as responsible as it is beautiful.

This work is slow, personal, and full of wonder. I hope you feel that when you wear each jewel."
